On Friday morning, it looked like it was going to be a sunny weekend and I really wanted to do some more packrafting before the end of the season. One problem - I couldn't find anyone who wanted to go with me. For some reason, sitting in a tiny boat su

I waited for them to get their boats set up and then followed them down the river. I was very glad they showed up, because the river ended up being more technical than I thought it would be. Looking back, I don't think I would have done it alone, I woul

We floated for about 4 miles before taking out at the first road access. At that point, our boats were covered with ice, but I was plenty warm - that river gave me quite a workout. Tony and J.T. gave me a ride back to my truck at the trailhead.

On Sunday, again I couldn't find anyone to go with, so I stuck to the easy water. I did a triathlon: Start at the Eagle River Loop Road bridge, rollerski up Hiland Road, then run/hike back down to the main fork of Eagle River and float back to the bridg

Yup - its still cold.

Funny story from Sunday. As I was driving to Eagle River, my car thermometer read 31 degrees and I was once again thinking I was crazy for going rafting. Then I pull into the parking lot and see three other...

As I was floating, I started thinking about how usually this time of year I am searching for snow so I can start skiing. This year, I am searching for more good hike/raft trips. I'm not ready for winter. Are my priorities changing? Maybe I need to swit
