Cory's Photo Gallery Summer 2004 Whittier Ridge Run aaa.jpg

At the risk of giving away one of the best kept secrets in southcentral Alaska, here is my trip report. The key to this run is to start by going up the Horsetail Falls trail. Do not be fooled by the Nat. Geographic map of PWS West that shows this trail starting next to the creek above town. After half an hour of bushwhacking, we found out the hard way that the trail was not there. The trail actually starts on a dirt road above the old military building south of town (the same road the loop finishes on). The first mile or so of this trail is a well-maintained boardwalk that climbs to a spot with this view of Whittier.
