Whittier is 60 miles southeast of Anchorage. About a year ago, as I was paddling along Passage Canal toward Whittier, I kept looking up at the ridge to the south and thinking, "I bet that would be an incredible run." It was a wide-open tundra ridge with trails at either end to make a loop. I hadn't heard about anyone doing this loop, but on the map it looked perfect.
